Egyptian Endometriosis Association

Who We Are Endometriosis Egypt

(Endo Egypt) is a non-profit organization community-driven initiative born out of a deep understanding of the struggles women face with endometriosis. We’re not just an organization; we’re a family. Our founders, along with our team and supporters, have either lived with endometriosis or walked alongside someone who has. This personal connection fuels our passion to create a safe, supportive space for every woman affected by this condition.

Our Story

Dr. Sayed Al-Akhras has dedicated decades to supporting women with endometriosis, a complex condition he describes as a “silent snake” due to its hidden impact. Recognizing the severe challenges posed by lack of awareness and an average 8-year diagnosis delay, he founded Endometriosis Egypt (Endo Egypt) to educate women and raise societal awareness. His goal is to empower a new generation to manage the condition effectively and reduce its prevalence. At Endo Egypt, we are committed to supporting women in silence, reducing stigma, and creating a society where every woman's voice is heard and valued.

Who does endometriosis effect?

Menstrual pain that keeps you from participating in usual activities is not normal. Some women never experience menstrual cramps. Others have only mild, occasional pain. If your cramps are severe and/or frequent, it is a sign of a problem.
An imbalance of substances called prostaglandins could be the problem. Prostaglandins regulate the smooth muscles in the uterus, the intestines, and other tissues. An imbalance of prostaglandins in your body can cause the uterus to contract too strongly and cause a lot of pain.
Endometriosis is NOT a sexually transmitted disease. Many teens and women who are not sexually active have endo.
No. Endometriosis does not seem to be a life-threatening illness. However, if ignored and left untreated, endo can lead to increased pain, possible infertility, and serious disability. That is why it is so important for teenagers to listen to their bodies, learn to understand the signals and take charge of their health. By taking action now, teens can prevent serious endometriosis problems in the future.
Unfortunately, there is no cure yet for Endo. But, the Endometriosis Association, through its ongoing support of medical research around the world, is leading the way toward a cure and an end to endometriosis suffering.
